Naxxar’s Naughty Builder: Seven Fines in 110 Inspections
Naxxar’s Naughty Builder: Seven Fines in 110 Inspections
Imagine this: a construction site in the heart of Naxxar, Malta’s sixth-largest locality, has been inspected 110 times. Now, that’s not your average building project. But here’s where it gets interesting – the site has been fined seven times. Seven. That’s one fine for every 15.7 inspections. So, what’s going on at this Naxxar construction site?
From Permits to Problems
Let’s rewind. The construction site in question is located on Triq San Gorg Preca, a bustling street in the heart of Naxxar. The project, a residential block, started with all the right paperwork. Permits were issued, plans were approved, and construction began. But somewhere along the line, things started to go awry.
The first fine was issued in March 2021. Then another in June. And another in August. The fines, issued by the Building Regulation Office, ranged from €300 to €1,500. The offenses? Everything from working without a permit to not following approved plans, and even causing a nuisance to neighbors.
Neighbors’ Nuisance
Naxxar residents living near the site have been vocal about the issues. “The noise starts early in the morning and goes on until late in the evening,” complains Maria, a long-time resident. “And the dust, oh the dust. It’s like living in a perpetual sandstorm.”
Maria isn’t alone. Other residents have complained about the lack of consideration for their quality of life. “We understand that progress needs to happen,” says Joe, another Naxxar resident. “But there needs to be a balance. This is our home, not just a construction site.”
Agency’s Response
The building agency responsible for the site, which we’re not naming to avoid undue bias, has been tight-lipped about the situation. They’ve issued statements acknowledging the fines and promising to rectify any issues. But for many Naxxar residents, it’s a case of too little, too late.
When contacted, a spokesperson for the agency said, “We take these fines seriously and are working diligently to ensure all regulations are followed. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to the residents of Naxxar.”
: A Call for Change
This isn’t just about one construction site in Naxxar. It’s about setting a precedent for how construction projects should be managed in Malta. It’s about respecting residents’ quality of life. It’s about doing things right, the first time.
So, what’s the solution? Stricter enforcement of building regulations? Better communication between builders and residents? More stringent penalties for offenders? It’s a complex issue, but one thing’s for sure – something needs to change.
As for the Naxxar construction site, it’s a waiting game. Will the seventh fine be the charm? Will the agency finally get it right? . But one thing’s certain – all eyes are on Triq San Gorg Preca.
