PL’s €12k Car Grant Promise: A Game-Changer for Big Families

Big Boost for Big Families: PL’s €12,000 Car Grant Promise

Imagine this: you’re a parent of four kids, navigating the bustling streets of Msida, Malta’s ‘City of Palaces’. You’re juggling school runs, grocery shopping, and work – all while trying to keep your family’s carbon footprint in check. Now, picture this – a €12,000 grant towards a new, eco-friendly car. This isn’t a dream scenario for Malta’s large families; it’s a promise from the Partit Laburista (PL).

PL’s Family-Friendly Pledge

The PL has announced a game-changing initiative aimed at supporting large families. If elected, they promise to introduce a grant of up to €12,000 for families with more than three children. This isn’t just about buying a new car; it’s about making life a little easier for parents and promoting greener transport options.

PL’s spokesperson for Family and Social Issues, Clifton Grima, shared, “We understand the challenges faced by large families. This grant is our way of saying ‘we’re with you’, while also encouraging sustainable transport choices.”

Who’s Eligible and How It Works

So, who’s in line for this generous grant? Families with three or more children under 18, regardless of marital status, are eligible. The grant will be means-tested, ensuring it reaches those who need it most.

Here’s the catch: the car must be electric or hybrid, with CO2 emissions not exceeding 50g/km. This isn’t just about helping families; it’s about cleaning up Malta’s air. PL estimates that around 1,000 families could benefit from this scheme annually.

What About Existing Car Owners?

But what if you’re already a proud parent of a car and a family of four or more? Fear not. PL’s proposal includes an option to trade in your old car for the grant. The car must be at least seven years old and have a valid roadworthiness certificate.

Grima reassured, “We want to make this scheme as accessible as possible. Trading in an old car for a greener one is a win-win situation.”

This isn’t just about cars; it’s about families. It’s about making life a little easier for parents in Msida, Birkirkara, or any other town in Malta. It’s about promoting greener transport options. It’s about a promise that could soon become a reality.

As Grima put it, “We’re not just talking about numbers here. We’re talking about families, about parents who deserve a helping hand. We’re talking about a greener, cleaner Malta.”
