Sexual Abuse Revealed in Ħamrun Attempted Murder Case

Doctor’s Report Reveals Sexual Abuse in Attempted Murder Case

In the dimly lit corridors of the Law Courts in Valletta, a chilling detail emerged this week. A medical expert testified that injuries sustained by a 27-year-old man were consistent with sexual abuse, providing a grim twist to an already disturbing attempted murder case.

The Incident and the Arrest

Last December, the victim was found severely injured in a derelict building in Ħamrun, a stone’s throw from the bustling Main Street. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for weeks. The police arrested a 35-year-old man in connection with the case, who has since been charged with attempted murder and grievous bodily harm.

The Medical Expert’s Testimony

Dr. Maria Azzopardi, a senior consultant in forensic medicine, took the stand this week. She presented a detailed report, stating that the victim’s injuries were not solely consistent with a physical assault. She testified, “The lacerations and tears in the anal and genital areas are indicative of sexual abuse.”

This revelation adds a layer of complexity to the case, with the prosecution now considering additional charges. The defense, however, has maintained that the injuries were sustained solely during a violent altercation.

Speaking outside the court, the victim’s family expressed shock and distress at the new revelations. “We always suspected something more was going on,” said the victim’s aunt, “but to hear it confirmed like this… it’s devastating.”

The Investigation Continues

The police have refused to comment on the case, stating that the investigation is ongoing. However, sources close to the case have hinted that the victim’s past may hold crucial clues. “We’re looking into his history, his associations, his movements leading up to the incident,” said a source, requesting anonymity.

The court case continues, with both sides set to present their closing arguments in the coming weeks. The victim, now recovered, will also take the stand to give his testimony.
