This isn’t a scene from a period drama, but a reality that awaits you on June 6, as the popular ‘Museums by Candlelight’ event returns for another enchanting evening.

The event, organised by Heritage Malta, transforms the city’s museums into magical, otherworldly spaces. From the grandeur of the Grandmaster’s Palace to the ancient artifacts at the National Museum of Archaeology, each venue tells a story under the flickering light of candles.

But this isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about connecting with our past in a unique, immersive way. “It’s an opportunity to experience history in a different light,” says Dr. Kristine Attard, Heritage Malta’s Director of Museums. “The candlelight creates a different atmosphere, making the exhibits feel more personal, more intimate.”

While the museums are the main attraction, ‘Museums by Candlelight’ is also a celebration of Malta’s cultural scene. Live music and performances will echo through the streets, adding to the festive atmosphere. Local food and drink stalls will be set up, offering a taste of Malta’s culinary delights.

Last year’s event saw over 6,000 people flock to Valletta, turning the city into a bustling, yet tranquil, open-air gallery. This year, organisers are expecting even more visitors, both local and foreign.

The event kicks off at 7 PM and runs until midnight. Tickets are €10 for adults and €5 for students, available online and at the venues on the night. Children under 12 enter for free.
