Valletta’s Museums Sparkle in ‘Candlelight’ Event on June 6

Valletta’s Museums to Sparkle in Next ‘Candlelight’ Edition on June 6

Imagine Valletta’s grand museums, bathed in the soft glow of candlelight, their usual hum of activity replaced by hushed whispers and the gentle flicker of flames. This enchanting scene is set to return on June 6, as the next edition of ‘Museums by Candlelight’ is announced for our capital city.

What to Expect on the Night

Organised by Heritage Malta, this unique event transforms our historical museums into magical, otherworldly spaces. Last year’s edition saw the National Museum of Archaeology, the National Museum of Fine Arts, and the Palace Armoury open their doors after sunset, offering a different perspective on their usual daytime glory.

This year’s event promises more of the same, with a line-up of museums yet to be announced. Picture strolling through the grand halls of these historic buildings, your path illuminated by the warm light of candles, as you explore Malta’s rich history and culture in a whole new light.

More Than Just a Museum Visit

But ‘Museums by Candlelight’ is more than just a chance to see our museums in a different light. It’s an opportunity to experience Valletta’s vibrant nightlife, with many cafes, bars, and restaurants staying open late to cater to event-goers.

Why not make a night of it? Start with a leisurely dinner at one of Valletta’s many eateries, like the historic Caffe Cordina on Republic Street, or the trendy Noni in St. Lucy Street. Then, take a stroll around the Grandmaster’s Palace, the National Museum of Archaeology, or the National Museum of Fine Arts, your path lit by the soft glow of candles.

Practical Information

Heritage Malta has yet to release full details of this year’s event, but we can expect tickets to go on sale soon. Last year’s event saw tickets priced at €10 for adults and €5 for students, with free entry for children under 12. Keep an eye on the Heritage Malta website and social media channels for updates.

In the meantime, why not start planning your route? Valletta’s museums are all within walking distance of each other, making it easy to explore at your leisure. And with the event set to run from 7 pm to 10 pm, you’ll have plenty of time to soak up the atmosphere.

So, mark June 6 in your diary, Valletta. The museums are about to get a whole lot more magical.
