Lidl Malta Recall: Act Now, These Products Could Pose a Risk

Imagine this: you’re at home, ready to enjoy a meal with your family, when you realise the product you’re about to consume has been recalled. This isn’t a hypothetical scenario for many Maltese residents today, as the Food Safety Authority (FSA) has issued a warning about certain Lidl products that could pose a risk to your health.

Which Products Are Affected?

Lidl Malta has recalled several of its products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can cause serious infections. The recalled items include:

    • Lidl Deluxe Hummus with Pine Nuts (200g) – Best Before: 28.02.2023
    • Lidl Deluxe Hummus with Pine Nuts (400g) – Best Before: 28.02.2023
    • Lidl Deluxe Pine Nuts (200g) – Best Before: 31.01.2023

If you’ve purchased any of these products, do not consume them. Instead, return them to your nearest Lidl store for a full refund.

What’s the Risk?

Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a type of food poisoning. While healthy individuals may only experience mild symptoms like fever and muscle aches, the infection can be severe for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. In severe cases, it can lead to death.

Dr. Charmaine Gauci, Superintendent of Public Health, urges everyone to check their pantries and take immediate action if they find any of the recalled products. “It’s crucial to ensure the safety of ourselves and our loved ones,” she says.

What Should You Do?

If you’ve consumed any of the recalled products and experience symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues, seek medical attention immediately. Even if you don’t feel ill, it’s important to return the products to Lidl for a refund.

Lidl Malta has apologised for any inconvenience caused and assures customers that the safety of their products is a top priority. The retailer has taken steps to remove the affected products from their shelves and is cooperating fully with the FSA’s investigation.

In the meantime, let’s all do our part to ensure food safety in Malta. Check your pantries, follow recall notices, and always prioritise your health and the health of those around you.
