Imagine this: you’re midway through cooking your favorite pasta dish, when you realize you’ve used the very product just recalled by Lidl Malta. This isn’t a hypothetical scenario, it’s a reality for many Maltese shoppers today. So, let’s dive into the details and find out what you need to do.

What’s Been Recalled?

The Food Safety Authority (FSA) has issued a warning about a batch of Lidl’s ‘Hochland’ processed cheese, specifically the 250g packs with best-before dates up to and including 31.12.2022. The recall is due to a possible contamination with plastic particles, posing a risk to consumers.

If you’ve purchased this product, the FSA advises you to check the best-before date and batch number (L20010034) on the packaging. If it matches, do not consume it. Instead, return it to your nearest Lidl store for a full refund.

Where Was It Sold?

Lidl Malta has stores across the island, from Msida to Paola, Birkirkara to Zebbug. If you’ve shopped at any of these locations recently, it’s worth double-checking your cheese supply. The recalled batch was sold in all Lidl Malta stores.

What Should You Do?

First, stay calm. This is a preventative measure, and no illnesses have been reported yet. However, it’s crucial to act swiftly to ensure your safety and that of your loved ones.

Check your pantry. If you find the recalled product, follow the FSA’s advice and return it to Lidl. If you’ve consumed the cheese and experience any adverse effects, seek medical attention immediately.

Lidl Malta has assured customers that they’re working closely with the FSA to resolve this issue. They’ve also set up a dedicated hotline (2122 2222) for customers with queries or concerns.

Let’s stay safe, Malta. It’s always better to be proactive than reactive when it comes to food safety.
