Lidl Malta Recall: Check Your Kitchen Now

Lidl Malta Recall: Act Now, Check Your Kitchen

Imagine this: you’re in the middle of preparing a hearty meal for your family at your Rabat apartment. You reach for the packet of Lidl’s ‘Saver’ mixed peppers, a staple in your weekly shop. Suddenly, you remember the news alert you saw earlier. You rush to your phone, confirming your fears. The very peppers you’re about to use are among the products recalled due to a potential contamination risk.

In an rare move, Lidl Malta has issued a recall for several of its ‘Saver’ range products, following a warning from the Food Safety Authority. The recall includes mixed peppers, sweetcorn, and garden peas, all packed in plastic trays and sold in Lidl stores across Malta and Gozo.

What’s the Risk?

The recall is due to a potential contamination with plastic pieces, which could pose a risk to consumers. While no injuries have been reported locally, similar incidents abroad have led to choking hazards and dental injuries. The Food Safety Authority has urged consumers not to eat the recalled products and to return them to the store for a full refund.

“We take food safety extremely seriously,” said a spokesperson for Lidl Malta. “We apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure our customers that we’re working closely with our suppliers to investigate the issue.”

Which Products Are Affected?

The recalled products are:

    • Lidl ‘Saver’ Mixed Peppers (300g, 400g, and 600g)
    • Lidl ‘Saver’ Sweetcorn (340g)
    • Lidl ‘Saver’ Garden Peas (340g)

All affected products have ‘Best Before’ dates between March 2023 and June 2023. If you’ve purchased any of these products, check the ‘Best Before’ date and the batch number (found on the packaging). If the product matches the recalled items, do not consume it and return it to your nearest Lidl store.

For any queries or concerns, Lidl Malta has set up a dedicated customer service line: 2134 2134. They’re ready to assist you Monday to Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm.
