Malta’s Aidan Takes Centre Stage at Eurovision Grand Final
Aidan’s Euro Journey: Malta’s Voice in the Grand Final
Malta’s very own Aidan Corkery is set to take the stage at the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final tonight. The 20-year-old singer-songwriter, who hails from the bustling streets of Birkirkara, will represent our tiny island nation among the 25 finalists in Turin, Italy.
From Malta’s Got Talent to Eurovision
Aidan’s journey to the Eurovision stage began right here in Malta. He first caught the nation’s attention when he won the Malta’s Got Talent title in 2019, wowing judges and audiences alike with his powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence. Fast forward to December 2021, Aidan emerged victorious from the Malta Eurovision Song Contest, earning the right to fly the Maltese flag at the prestigious international event.
“It’s a dream come true,” Aidan told Hot Malta in an exclusive interview. “From performing in front of a local audience to now representing Malta on such a massive stage, it’s surreal.”
Aidan’s Song: ‘I Am What I Am’
Aidan will be performing ‘I Am What I Am’ at the Grand Final. The uplifting pop ballad, written by Aidan himself along with Greek composer and songwriter Dimitris Kontopoulos, is an anthem of self-acceptance and empowerment. “It’s a song about embracing who you are, flaws and all,” Aidan explains. “I think it’s a message that resonates with everyone, no matter where they’re from.”
The song has already gained international attention, with many Eurovision fans and music critics praising its powerful lyrics and Aidan’s impressive vocals. “I’ve been overwhelmed by the support I’ve received, not just from Malta, but from all over Europe and beyond,” Aidan says. “It’s incredible to see how music can bring people together.”
Malta’s Support: From Valletta to Turin
Back home in Malta, Aidan’s fans are rallying behind him. From Valletta’s City Gate to the streets of Birkirkara, Maltese flags are flying high, and social media is abuzz with messages of support. “It’s amazing to see how much love and support there is,” Aidan says. “It’s like I’m taking a piece of Malta with me to Turin.”
Malta’s Prime Minister, Robert Abela, also sent Aidan a message of support, saying, “We’re all behind you, Aidan. You’re making Malta proud.”
Fans can tune in to watch Aidan perform live at the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final tonight at 9 PM CET (8 PM Malta time). The show will be broadcast live on TVM and can also be streamed online on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.
