Rain Forces PN to Cancel Event, Labour to Take Cover

Rain Check: Political Parties Weather Storm’s Impact on Campaigns

As the first heavy rain of the season pounded Malta, it wasn’t just the streets that were flooded. The political scene saw a sudden shift as both major parties were forced to adjust their plans. The Nationalist Party (PN) cancelled their event, while the Labour Party (PL) sought refuge indoors, leaving voters and supporters alike wondering what the weather had in store for the upcoming elections.

PN’s Rainy Day Cancellation

The PN had planned a lively event at the historic Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta. However, as the skies opened up, the party was left with no choice but to call off the event. “We regret to inform our supporters that due to the heavy rain, we have had to cancel today’s event,” read a statement from the PN. The party, led by Bernard Grech, had hoped to capitalise on the energy of their recent campaign launches.

PN supporters, many of whom had already gathered in Valletta, were left disappointed. “I’ve been looking forward to this all week,” said Mario, a PN supporter from Birkirkara. “But I understand, safety comes first. I’ll just have to wait for the next event.”

Labour Takes Cover in Castille

Meanwhile, the Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Robert Abela, decided to move their event indoors to the Grandmaster’s Palace in Castille Square. The change of venue didn’t dampen the spirits of the PL supporters who turned up in numbers, cheering their leaders as they took shelter from the rain.

“We’re used to the rain in Malta,” said PL supporter Maria from Żebbuġ. “It’s not going to stop us from showing our support. We just moved the party indoors, that’s all.”

Weathering the Storm: Campaigns Press On

Despite the weather-related setbacks, both parties have vowed to press on with their campaigns. The PN has rescheduled their event for later this week, while the PL has a series of events planned across Malta and Gozo in the coming days.

With the elections just around the corner, the weather might be unpredictable, but one thing is certain: the political campaigns are far from over. So, whether it’s rain or shine, Malta’s voters can expect to see and hear more from both parties in the lead up to the polls.

“The show must go on,” said PN’s Bernard Grech, summing up the sentiment of both parties. “We’ll weather this storm and continue to engage with our supporters. After all, that’s what democracy is all about.”
