Rain Spoils Political Parties’ Plans
Downpour Derailed: Political Parties Scramble as Rain Spoils Plans
Yesterday, Mother Nature had other plans for Malta’s political parties. As the heavens opened up over the Grand Harbour, the Nationalist Party (PN) was left with no choice but to cancel their event, while the Labour Party (PL) sought refuge indoors. Here’s how the rain forced a change of plans for our political parties.
PN’s Harbour Plans Wash Away
The PN had grand plans for the evening. They were set to launch their ‘Malta il-Ħadd’ campaign from the historic Grandmaster’s Palace, with a grand view of the harbour as a backdrop. But as the rain began to pour, their plans started to unravel. The party announced the cancellation of the event just hours before it was due to start, citing safety concerns for the expected crowd.
Party leader Bernard Grech took to social media to express his disappointment, “Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, we’ve had to cancel tonight’s launch. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused, but safety must come first.” The party has since rescheduled the launch for this coming Sunday at the same time, fingers crossed for better weather.
Labour Takes Cover in Castille
Meanwhile, across the street, the Labour Party was also feeling the effects of the rain. They had planned to hold a press conference at the Castille Square, but as the downpour intensified, they were forced to move indoors. The press conference went ahead as planned, but from the comfort of the Great Hall in Auberge de Castille.
Prime Minister Robert Abela addressed the media, brushing off the change of plans with a joke, “We may have been rained off our original location, but we’re not letting the rain dampen our spirits. We’re here to talk about our plans for Malta, come rain or shine.”
Weathering the Political Storm
This isn’t the first time that Malta’s unpredictable weather has thrown a spanner in the works of political plans. From cancelled marches to impromptu press conferences, our politicians are no strangers to the whims of the Maltese weather. But they’re not letting it stop them. Both parties have vowed to continue with their campaigns, rain or shine.
As for the rest of us, we’re just hoping for a break in the weather. After all, there’s nothing quite like a Maltese summer shower to remind us that even in the midst of political storms, there’s always a rainbow around the corner.
