Rain Washes Out PN Event, PL Seeks Cover

Rain Check: Political Parties’ Outdoor Events Wash Out

As the heavens opened over Malta, so did the umbrellas, but not just for the usual passersby. The Nationalist Party (PN) and the Labour Party (PL) found themselves in a soggy situation as their outdoor events were forced to change plans, with the PN cancelling altogether and the PL seeking cover.

PN’s Rainy Day Cancellation

The PN’s event, scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the Santa Venera Football Ground, was called off due to the heavy downpour. The party had planned to discuss their proposals for the upcoming Budget, but the weather had other plans. Party officials announced the cancellation on their social media platforms, urging supporters to stay safe and dry at home.

This isn’t the first time the PN has had to contend with Malta’s unpredictable weather. In 2019, their event at the Floriana Granaries was disrupted by a sudden storm, leading to a hurried relocation indoors. “It’s part of the game when you’re planning outdoor events in Malta,” said a PN official, chuckling at the recurring theme.

PL Takes Cover in Valletta

Meanwhile, the Labour Party, who had planned a rally in Valletta’s Republic Street, had to make a quick change of plans. The party moved their event indoors to the Mediterranean Conference Centre, ensuring their supporters and speakers stayed dry. The rally went ahead as planned, with party leader Robert Abela addressing the crowd on various topics, including the upcoming Budget.

This isn’t the first time the PL has had to adapt to Malta’s weather conditions. In 2017, their event at the Grandmaster’s Palace was disrupted by heavy rain, leading to a last-minute relocation to the Auberge de Castille. “Malta’s weather can be challenging, but it also makes us resilient,” said a PL official.

Weathering the Political Storm

Malta’s political parties are no strangers to the island’s unpredictable weather. From sudden storms to scorching heat, they’ve had to adapt their events accordingly. Both parties have been praised for their quick thinking and concern for their supporters’ safety in these situations.

As Malta continues to grapple with its unpredictable weather, one thing is clear: political parties will need to keep a close eye on the forecast and have backup plans at the ready. After all, as they say in politics, “expect the unexpected.”

Next time you see political parties rushing to change their plans due to the weather, remember, it’s not just about the rain; it’s about their commitment to keeping their supporters safe and informed.
