Teen’s Face Slashed in Brawl: Witness Questioned

In the heart of Malta’s bustling St. Julian’s, a late-night brawl left a 17-year-old with a deep gash across his face. Now, police are questioning a witness, as the community grapples with the shocking incident that occurred just steps away from the popular Spinola Bay.

Brawl Erupts on Triq il-Kappillan

The fight broke out around 3 AM on Sunday, along Triq il-Kappillan, a street known for its lively bars and restaurants. According to eyewitnesses, a verbal altercation escalated into a full-blown brawl, leaving the teenager with a severe facial injury. The victim was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

“I heard the commotion and looked out my window,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous. “I saw a group of young men fighting, and then I saw the boy’s face. It was terrible.”

Police Seek Witnesses

Malta Police are treating the incident as grievous bodily harm and have launched an investigation. They have confirmed that a witness is being questioned, but no arrests have been made yet. Inspector Joseph Muscat from the St. Julian’s Police Station urged anyone with information to come forward.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything to contact us,” he said. “We need all the help we can get to bring those responsible to justice.”

If you have any information, you can contact the police on 119 or visit your nearest police station.

Community Reacts

The incident has sparked outrage in the community. Local councillor, Marthese Portelli, condemned the violence, saying, “This is not the St. Julian’s we know and love. We will not tolerate such behaviour in our community.”

Portelli also called for stricter enforcement of noise and disorder regulations in the area. “We need to ensure that our streets are safe, especially for our young people,” she added.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family has asked for privacy as they support him through his recovery. His mother, visibly emotional, said, “We just want justice for our son. No parent should have to see their child like this.”
