Three New Priests Bring Hope to Malta’s Catholic Community
In the heart of Valletta, under the grand dome of St. John’s Co-Cathedral, a sense of renewal filled the air as Archbishop Charles Scicluna ordained three new priests. The ceremony, held on a sunny Saturday morning, was a beacon of hope for Malta’s Catholic community, especially after the challenging times of the pandemic.
Meet the New Priests
The three new priests, Fr. Mark Anthony Micallef, Fr. David Azzopardi, and Fr. Matthew Azzopardi, have all grown up in different parts of Malta. Fr. Mark Anthony hails from Żebbuġ, a historic town known for its rich history and stunning views. Fr. David and Fr. Matthew, both brothers, come from the bustling town of Birkirkara, a hub of activity and culture.
Each of them brings a unique perspective to their new role. Fr. Mark Anthony, with his background in education, is eager to inspire young minds. Fr. David, a former healthcare worker, understands the importance of spiritual care in healing. Fr. Matthew, with his love for music, plans to incorporate it into his ministry.
Ordination Ceremony: A Symbol of Hope
The ordination ceremony was a symbol of hope and resilience. The cathedral, usually filled with tourists, was instead filled with family, friends, and parishioners, all eager to support the new priests. The Archbishop’s message was clear: despite the challenges, the Church remains a beacon of hope and love.
“Today, we celebrate not just the ordination of these three men, but also the strength and resilience of our community,” Archbishop Scicluna said. “We have faced many challenges, but we continue to stand tall, united in our faith.”
: A New Chapter for the Church in Malta
The ordination of these three priests is a significant step forward for the Church in Malta. With a younger generation taking on leadership roles, there’s a renewed energy and a fresh perspective. The new priests are eager to engage with their communities, to listen, to learn, and to grow together.
Fr. Mark Anthony sums it up, “We are not just entering a new role, but a new chapter. A chapter where we listen, where we engage, where we grow. A chapter where we bring hope, love, and understanding to our communities.”
As the three new priests begin their ministry, Malta’s Catholic community looks forward to a future filled with hope, renewal, and resilience.
