Valletta’s Museums to Sparkle in Next ‘Candelight’ Edition on June 6
Imagine strolling through the grand halls of our historic museums, their usual daytime brilliance replaced by the soft glow of hundreds of candles. This enchanting scene is not a dream, but a reality that awaits us all on June 6, as the next edition of ‘Museums by Candlelight’ is set to illuminate Valletta.
What is ‘Museums by Candlelight’?
For those new to this magical event, ‘Museums by Candlelight’ is an annual initiative that transforms our city’s museums into fairytale settings for one evening. The Heritage Malta museums in Valletta open their doors after sunset, inviting visitors to explore their exhibits under the warm light of candles.
This unique experience offers a chance to appreciate our cultural heritage in a whole new light, quite literally. It’s an event that’s become a staple in Malta’s cultural calendar, drawing locals and tourists alike.
What to Expect This Year
This year’s edition promises to be just as enchanting as its predecessors. The National Museum of Archaeology, the National Museum of Fine Arts, and the Palace Armoury will all be participating, each offering a different slice of our rich history.
At the National Museum of Archaeology, you can expect to see the ancient artifacts bathed in the soft glow of candles, casting intriguing shadows that dance on the walls. The National Museum of Fine Arts will be a symphony of light and color, with the candlelight reflecting off the gilded frames and vibrant paintings. Meanwhile, the Palace Armoury will be a fortress of flickering flames, with the gleaming armor and weapons taking on an almost mystical aura.
Practical Information
Mark your calendars for June 6, and make sure to arrive in Valletta early to enjoy the sunset and grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants in the city. The museums will open their doors at 7 PM, and entry is free, although donations are welcome to support Heritage Malta’s work.
Remember to dress warmly, as the evening can get chilly, especially near the Grandmaster’s Palace. And while photography is allowed, please be respectful and mindful of other visitors.
So, are you ready to step back in time and experience our museums like never before? See you all in Valletta on June 6!
