Dara: Malta’s Star Shines Bright at Eurovision

Imagine the scene: a packed arena in Turin, Italy, filled with a cacophony of cheers and chants. Amongst the sea of flags, one stands out – the Maltese cross on a field of white. This is not just any night; it’s the night Malta’s own Dara is set to make history at the Eurovision Song Contest.

From Żurrieq to the World Stage

Dara, born Darine Abou Antoun, hails from the picturesque village of Żurrieq, nestled in Malta’s south. Her journey to the Eurovision stage is a testament to Malta’s thriving music scene and the power of local talent. Growing up, Dara was no stranger to the spotlight, having performed at various local events and festivals. But it was her winning performance at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in 2022 that catapulted her onto the global stage.

“I still remember the moment I won,” Dara recalls, “The crowd erupted, and I felt this overwhelming sense of pride and joy. I knew that this was just the beginning of an incredible journey.”

Flying the Flag for Malta

Dara’s Eurovision entry, “Flying the Flag,” is a powerful anthem that resonates with Maltese pride. The song, written by Malta’s own Muxu and David Cassar Torreggiani, captures the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the Maltese people.

“Flying the Flag is more than just a song,” Dara explains. “It’s a statement about who we are as a nation. We might be small, but we’re mighty. We’ve faced adversity time and time again, and we’ve always emerged stronger.”

Malta’s Eurovision Moment

Malta has a rich history at Eurovision, with notable entries like “Think of Me” by Chiara in 2005 and “Walking on Water” by Ira Losco in 2002. But Dara’s performance in Turin was something special. She delivered a flawless performance, captivating the audience with her powerful vocals and charismatic stage presence.

When the votes were in, Malta found itself in the top ten, a remarkable achievement for such a small nation. Dara’s performance was a testament to Malta’s musical talent and a proud moment for the island nation.

“I’m so proud to have flown the flag for Malta,” Dara says. “The support I’ve received from home has been overwhelming. It’s made me even more determined to make Malta proud.”

As Dara looks to the future, she’s already thinking about what’s next. “I want to continue making music, performing, and inspiring people. I want to show the world that Malta is a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the stage.”

And with that, the stage is set for Dara to continue her incredible journey. From Żurrieq to Turin, and beyond, Malta’s star is shining bright.
