Mellieħa Minibus Blaze: Firefighters Battle Intense Flames

Flames Lick Mellieħa Street as Minibus Goes Up in Smoke

In the quiet Maltese town of Mellieħa, a sudden blaze last night turned a peaceful street into a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood action movie. A minibus, parked along Triq il-Kbira, was engulfed in flames, drawing gasps from residents and passersby. The fire, which started around 10 PM, sent plumes of smoke into the night sky, illuminating the otherwise tranquil town.

Firefighters Battle the Blaze

The Malta Fire Rescue Service was quick to respond, with two tenders and a rescue vehicle rushing to the scene. Firefighters battled the intense flames, managing to extinguish the fire after about an hour. No injuries were reported, but the minibus was completely destroyed, its charred remains a stark contrast to the usually pristine streets of Mellieħa.

“I was watching TV when I heard a commotion outside,” said Joe, a resident of Triq il-Kbira. “When I looked out, I saw the minibus on fire. It was quite a shock, especially at this time of night.”

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with police and fire officials examining the scene. While initial reports suggest it might have been an electrical fault, nothing has been confirmed yet. The minibus was reportedly unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Mellieħa Mayor Sean Xuereb expressed relief that no one was hurt. “We’re grateful to the firefighters for their swift response,” he said. “We’re also grateful to the residents for their cooperation during the incident.”

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety. The Malta Fire Rescue Service urges everyone to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and to never leave them unattended while running.
