Mġarr Bike Crash: Cyclist Critical, Community Calls for Action

Early morning commuters on Triq l-Imqabba in Mġarr were met with a grim sight yesterday: a cyclist lying injured on the road, a crumpled bike, and a truck with a shattered headlight. The cyclist, a 35-year-old man, was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital with grievous injuries, fighting for his life.

The accident occurred around 7:30 AM, as the cyclist was heading towards Mosta. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, a heavy goods vehicle, turned left from Triq l-Imqabba onto Triq il-Kbira, colliding with the cyclist. The police have launched an investigation, appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

This incident has once again highlighted the safety concerns of cyclists in Mġarr and across Malta. The narrow roads, heavy traffic, and lack of dedicated cycling lanes make for a dangerous mix.
