Car Overturns on Triq San Pawl: Motorist Hospitalised
Early this morning, emergency services rushed to Triq San Pawl in Birkirkara after reports of a car overturning, leaving the driver with serious injuries. The incident, which occurred around 6 am, caused traffic chaos during the morning rush hour.
Scene of the Accident
The silver Ford Fiesta was found on its roof, blocking the busy road leading to the Birkirkara bypass. Witnesses reported seeing the car lose control near the roundabout by the old Birkirkara Primary School. “I saw the car swerve and then flip over,” said Joe, a local resident. “It was quite a scare.”
Emergency Response
Police and Civil Protection Department officers swiftly arrived at the scene, closing off the road to allow an ambulance to tend to the injured motorist. The driver, a 35-year-old man from Birkirkara, was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital with suspected broken ribs and a head injury. His condition is stable but serious.
Traffic was diverted through side streets, causing delays and frustration among commuters. “I was stuck in traffic for over an hour,” complained Maria, who was on her way to work in Msida. “I hope the driver is okay, but this really messed up my morning.”
Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the cause of the accident. They have not ruled out speeding or fatigue as possible factors. “We appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward,” said a police spokesperson.
This is the second serious road accident in Birkirkara this month, raising concerns about road safety in the central region. The incident also highlights the importance of safe driving practices, especially during early morning hours when visibility is low.
