Grech Rallies PN Supporters in Mosta
‘My word is a contract’: Borg rallies PN supporters in Mosta
In the heart of Malta, under the watchful gaze of the Mosta Dome, Nationalist Party (PN) leader Bernard Grech addressed a sea of supporters, his voice echoing through the town square. “My word is a contract,” he declared, a phrase that would become the rallying cry of the evening. But what brought these supporters to Mosta, and what does this gathering tell us about the political climate in Malta?
Mosta: A Political Crossroads
Mosta, a town nestled between Żabbar and Żejtun, has long been a political crossroads. It’s a place where the PN has traditionally held strong, but where Labour has been making inroads. In the 2019 general election, the PN won the Mosta district by a slim margin, highlighting the town’s strategic importance in Malta’s political scene.
Grech’s Message: Honesty and Integrity
Grech, a lawyer by profession, has made honesty and integrity the cornerstones of his leadership. His message in Mosta was no different. “People are tired of empty promises,” he told the crowd. “They want a government that keeps its word.” He promised that if elected, the PN would restore trust in institutions, tackle corruption, and create a fairer society.
Grech also took aim at the Labour government’s handling of the economy, healthcare, and education. He criticized the government’s management of the COVID-19 pandemic, arguing that the PN would have handled it better. “We would have been more transparent, more honest,” he said.
Supporters: Hopeful and Engaged
Among the crowd was Maria, a 55-year-old nurse from Żebbuġ. She told Hot Malta, “I’ve been a PN supporter all my life, but I’ve never seen the party so united, so full of hope. Bernard Grech gives us a sense that things can change for the better.”
Joseph, a 32-year-old entrepreneur from Mosta, echoed Maria’s sentiment. “I’ve always voted PN, but I’ve never been so engaged, so ready to make a difference. Grech’s message of honesty and integrity resonates with me. I believe he can lead us out of the mess we’re in.”
: The Road to 2023
The next general election is scheduled for 2023, and both parties are already gearing up for the fight. The PN, buoyed by Grech’s leadership and the energy of his supporters, is confident it can win. But Labour, under Prime Minister Robert Abela, is not about to relinquish power without a fight.
As Grech wrapped up his speech, the crowd chanted, “Bernard, Bernard!” The PN leader smiled, waved, and promised, “We will win. Together, we will win.” The road to 2023 is long and winding, but one thing is clear: the political temperature in Malta is rising, and Mosta is at the epicenter.
