Labour’s Telethon Breaks Records, Raising €1.8M for Charity
Malta’s Labour Party has set a new benchmark for fundraising, raising an astonishing €1.8 million in its annual telethon. The event, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta, saw a wave of generosity from Maltese citizens and businesses, surpassing last year’s record by a significant margin.
Valletta’s MCC Buzzing with Generosity
The Mediterranean Conference Centre was abuzz with activity on the evening of the telethon. Volunteers, donors, and Labour Party members filled the historic building, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and giving. The centre, a stone’s throw from the iconic Grandmaster’s Palace, served as a fitting backdrop for such a monumental display of Maltese philanthropy.
Local Businesses and Individuals Dig Deep
Businesses and individuals from across Malta and Gozo dug deep to support the cause. From small, family-owned businesses to large corporations, the Maltese community came together to raise funds for various local charities. Notable donations included a €100,000 contribution from the Mamo Group and a €50,000 donation from the Vassallo Group.
Individuals also played a significant role, with many pledging substantial amounts. A resident from Msida, who wished to remain anonymous, donated €25,000, stating, “I believe in giving back to my community, and I’m proud to see so many others doing the same.”
Charities Rejoice as Funds Roll In
The telethon raised funds for a variety of local charities, including Id-Dar tal-Providenza, the Malta Community Chest Fund, and the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector. These organisations provide vital services to the Maltese community, and the influx of funds will undoubtedly have a significant impact.
Dr. Mary Ann Sant Fournier, CEO of Id-Dar tal-Providenza, expressed her gratitude: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity shown tonight. These funds will go a long way in helping us provide the best possible care for those with intellectual and physical disabilities.”
: Labour Sets the Bar High for Future Fundraising
With the bar set high, all eyes are on next year’s telethon. Labour Party leader and Prime Minister Robert Abela expressed his gratitude to the Maltese public, stating, “Tonight, we have shown what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause. I am incredibly proud of our community, and I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish in the future.”
As the Mediterranean Conference Centre emptied and the telethon came to a close, one thing was clear: the spirit of generosity that filled the historic building will continue to resonate, touching the lives of countless Maltese individuals and families.
