Malta’s Zach Vella Completes Epic London-Malta Run for Homeless
Malta’s Zach Vella: From London Streets to Home Soil, A Marathon for the Homeless
Imagine pounding the pavement for 1,800 kilometers, your feet bearing the brunt of the journey, one step at a time. Now, imagine doing it not for personal glory, but to raise awareness and funds for Malta’s homeless. This is the epic feat accomplished by Zach Vella, a man on a mission who touched down in Malta yesterday, completing his monumental London to Malta run.
From London to Valletta: A Journey of Endurance and Empathy
Zach Vella, a 32-year-old Maltese native now residing in London, embarked on this grueling journey on August 15. His destination? The iconic Triton Fountain in Valletta, Malta’s capital city. His cause? To raise awareness and funds for Malta’s homeless population, supported by local charity Dar tal-Providenza.
Vella’s journey took him through the rolling hills of France, across the Swiss Alps, and down into Italy, before finally crossing the Mediterranean to reach his homeland. He ran an average of 60 kilometers a day, his body fueled by determination and the support of strangers who joined him along the way.
Malta Welcomes Home Its Marathon Man
Yesterday, Vella was greeted by a cheering crowd at the Triton Fountain, his journey’s end. Among the well-wishers were Malta’s Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties, Dr. Clifton Grima, and representatives from Dar tal-Providenza. Vella’s feat has not only raised awareness but also €10,000 for the charity, with donations still pouring in.
“I wanted to do something that would make a difference,” Vella told Hot Malta. “I’ve seen firsthand the struggles of the homeless in London, and I knew I had to do something to help those facing the same challenges back home.”
Vella’s journey was more than just a physical challenge; it was a test of his mental resilience and a lesson in human connection. “The support I’ve received along the way has been incredible,” he said. “From strangers offering me a place to rest, to local communities coming out to run with me, it’s been a humbling experience.”
As Vella catches his breath and reflects on his achievement, he’s already . “This is just the beginning,” he says. “I want to continue raising awareness and funds for Malta’s homeless. I want my run to inspire others to get involved, to donate, to volunteer. Together, we can make a difference.”
