Momentum Candidate Apologizes for Middle-Finger Gesture

Candidate’s Apology After Middle-Finger Accusation

In the heart of Valletta, outside the ornate Parliament building, a political storm brewed last week. A candidate for the Momentum party, walking down Republic Street, found themselves at the centre of a controversy that’s left locals talking and shaking their heads.

What Happened on Republic Street?

Eyewitnesses claim that the candidate, let’s call them ‘X’, was approached by a passerby who accused them of not following through on a campaign promise. The exchange, according to witnesses, became heated. ‘X’ was seen gesturing with their hand, and the passerby insisted it was a middle finger salute. The incident was captured on a bystander’s phone and quickly circulated on social media.

Momentum’s Response

The Momentum party was quick to respond. They released a statement condemning the action, stating, “We expect our candidates to maintain decorum at all times. This behavior is not reflective of our party’s values.” They also announced that ‘X’ would be issuing a public apology.

‘X’ delivered the apology outside the same Parliament building where the incident occurred. They admitted to “losing my cool” and expressed regret for their actions. “I let my emotions get the better of me. I apologize to the person involved and to the public for my unprofessional behavior,” they said.

Reactions from the Public

Reactions from the public have been mixed. Some understand that politicians are human and make mistakes, while others feel that the apology was not enough. “Politicians should be held to a higher standard,” said one local, Maria Grech, as she walked past the Parliament building.

On the other hand, Joseph Borg, a regular at the nearby Caffe Cordina, had this to say, “We all make mistakes. I think the apology was sincere. Let’s move on.”

As for the passerby who accused ‘X’, they’ve chosen to remain anonymous but accepted the apology, saying, “I just want to move past this. We all make mistakes.”
