Take the case of Triq il-Kbira in Msida, for example. This narrow street is a major thoroughfare, yet it’s barely wide enough for two cars to pass each other. During peak hours, it’s a constant game of chicken, with drivers inching forward, hoping to get a gap big enough to squeeze through.

Solutions: Can We Unclog Our Roads?

So, what can be done? The solution isn’t simple, but there are steps that can be taken. Improving public transport is a must. This means not just adding more buses, but also making them more efficient and reliable. It also means encouraging more people to use them by making them affordable and convenient.

Carpooling is another solution that’s often overlooked. If more people shared their commute, it would significantly reduce the number of vehicles on the road. The government could incentivize this by providing carpool lanes or offering tax breaks to carpoolers.

But it’s not just up to the government. Drivers also have a role to play. We can all do our part by planning our journeys better, avoiding peak hours if possible, and being more patient and considerate on the road.
