Cocaine Cache: €13,000 Seized in Qrendi Raid

In the quiet, picturesque village of Qrendi, nestled between the ancient temples and the Mediterranean Sea, a significant drug bust took place last week. The Malta Police Force, acting on a tip-off, raided a residence in Triq il-Kbira, the main street of this typically peaceful locality. The result? A staggering €13,000 worth of cocaine was seized, and a 35-year-old woman was charged in connection with the find.

Uncovering the Stash

The raid, carried out by the Drugs Squad, uncovered 130 grams of high-purity cocaine hidden in the residence. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at €13,000. The woman, a local resident, was arrested on the spot and later charged with drug trafficking offenses. She was released on police bail pending further investigations.

Superintendent Mario Mifsud of the Drugs Squad commented, “This seizure is a significant blow to the local drug trade. We are committed to maintaining the safety and tranquility of our communities, and operations like this send a clear message to those involved in such activities.”

Qrendi: A Surprising Twist

Qrendi, known for its rich history and stunning landscapes, is not typically associated with high-level drug trafficking. The discovery has left locals shocked and concerned. “We’ve always felt safe here,” said a long-time resident who wished to remain anonymous. “This is a wake-up call. We need to look out for each other and report any suspicious activity.”

The Malta Police Force has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected drug-related activities. They can be reached at 119 or via the ‘Report a Crime’ function on the e-Police app.

The woman is due to appear in court next month. If convicted, she faces a prison sentence of up to 26 years under Malta’s tough drug laws.
