Man Denies Setting Fire to Truck in Qormi
Bowser Blaze: Man Denies Setting Fire to Truck in Qormi
In the quiet, narrow streets of Qormi, a truck’s charred remains still smoulder, a stark reminder of the fiery spectacle that lit up the night sky just days ago. The incident, which could have been a scene straight out of a Hollywood disaster film, has left the close-knit community of this historic town buzzing with questions and speculation.
Truck Goes Up in Flames
On the evening of June 15, residents of Qormi were startled by a sudden, intense glow in the sky. They rushed to their balconies and windows to find a bowser truck, parked in a side street off Triq il-Kbira, engulfed in flames. The fire, which quickly spread to nearby vehicles and buildings, was a terrifying sight for those who witnessed it. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the damage to property was extensive.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Joe, a local shop owner who prefers not to give his full name. “The flames were so high, they were licking the windows of the apartments above. It was like something out of a movie.”
Arrest and Denial
Following the incident, police arrested a 35-year-old man from Qormi, suspected of setting the truck on fire. The man, who has not been named, has since denied any involvement in the incident. According to his lawyer, the man was at home at the time of the fire and has an alibi to prove it.
“My client categorically denies any involvement in this incident,” said the lawyer, speaking to Hot Malta on condition of anonymity. “We are cooperating fully with the police and are confident that the truth will come out.”
Motive and Investigation
The motive behind the alleged arson remains unclear. The bowser truck, owned by a local fuel company, was parked in the street as it made its rounds delivering fuel to businesses in the area. The company has declined to comment on the incident, citing the ongoing police investigation.
Inspector Joe Muscat, leading the investigation, told Hot Malta, “We are treating this as a case of arson. We are following several leads and are confident that we will bring those responsible to justice.”
Residents of Qormi are hoping for a swift resolution to the case. “This is a peaceful town,” said Maria, a retired teacher. “We don’t want this kind of thing happening here. We want our streets to be safe again.”
The investigation into the Qormi bowser truck fire continues. Hot Malta will bring you more updates as the story develops.
