Voting Document MIA? Here’s How to Collect It in Malta
Imagine this: it’s election day, you’re all set to cast your vote, but wait… you can’t find your voting document. Panic sets in, but hold on! You’re not alone, and there’s still time to rectify this. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to collect your voting document in Malta.
Understanding the Process
First things first, let’s understand what’s happened. Your voting document, or ‘carta di vot’, is sent to your registered address. If it hasn’t arrived, it might be lost in transit, or you might have moved and not updated your address. No worries, you can still collect it.
Where to Go
In Malta, you can collect your voting document from your local District Office. There are five districts: Birkirkara, Floriana, Gozo, Rabat, and Victoria (Gozo). Here’s a quick rundown:
- Birkirkara District Office: Triq il-Kbira, Birkirkara
- Floriana District Office: Triq San Publiju, Floriana
- Gozo District Office: Triq San Lawrenz, Victoria, Gozo
- Rabat District Office: Triq San Pawl, Rabat
These offices are open from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday to Friday. On election day, they’ll be open until 5:00 PM.
What You’ll Need
To collect your voting document, you’ll need to bring a valid form of ID. This could be your ID card, passport, or driving license. If you’ve moved recently, you’ll also need to bring proof of your new address. This could be a utility bill, a rental agreement, or a similar document.
If you’re collecting someone else’s voting document, you’ll need a signed letter of authorization from them, along with a copy of their ID.
What If You Can’t Make It?
If you can’t make it to the District Office, don’t worry. You can still vote. You’ll need to go to the Returning Officer’s Office in Valletta. It’s located at the Grandmaster’s Palace, Republic Street. They’ll be open until 10:00 PM on election day.
Remember, if you’re voting in Gozo, you’ll need to go to the Gozo District Office. They’ll also be open until 10:00 PM on election day.
Don’t Leave It Too Late
While the District Offices will be open late on election day, don’t leave it until the last minute. There might be queues, and you don’t want to rush your vote. Plus, it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan in case something goes wrong.
So, if you’ve misplaced your voting document, don’t panic. Just head to your local District Office, and you’ll be casting your vote in no time. Happy voting, Malta!
