Malta’s AI Boom: 6,000 Users Sign Up in 48 Hours
Imagine the bustling streets of Republic Street in Valletta, the heart of Malta’s capital. Now, picture a digital revolution happening right there, in the palms of 6,000 Maltese hands, all within just two days. That’s the reality of the ‘AI for All’ programme, which has taken Malta by storm.
What is ‘AI for All’?
‘AI for All’ is an initiative by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) and the University of Malta, aimed at democratising artificial intelligence. The programme offers free online courses, teaching AI basics to anyone interested, regardless of their background.
Malta’s AI Fever
In just 48 hours, from the programme’s launch on Friday, the 10th of June, to Sunday evening, over 6,000 Maltese users signed up. This surge of interest has put Malta on the global AI map, showing that our little island is hungry for digital progress.
Among the sign-ups were students, professionals, and even retirees, all eager to learn about AI. “I’ve always been curious about AI,” said 65-year-old Joe from Birkirkara. “I thought, why not give it a go? It’s never too late to learn something new.”
What’s Next for Malta’s AI Scene?
The success of ‘AI for All’ has opened up new possibilities. The MDIA is already discussing plans to expand the programme, potentially offering advanced AI courses in the future. Local tech companies are also excited about the talent pool that’s about to grow.
“This is a breakthrough for us,” said Mark, CEO of a local AI startup. “We’re always on the lookout for talent, and now we have 6,000 potential candidates right here in Malta.”
As for the users, they’re ready to dive into the world of AI. “I can’t wait to start learning,” said 22-year-old Lisa from Msida. “Who knows, maybe I’ll be the next big thing in AI right here in Malta.”
So, the question isn’t whether Malta is ready for AI. It’s clear that we are. The real question is: what’s next for our little island on the cutting edge of technology?
