Man Denies Setting Fire to Bowser Truck in St. Julian’s

Blaze of Denial: Man Refuses to Take the Heat for Burning Bowser Truck

In the scorching heat of a Maltese summer afternoon, a fireball erupted from a bowser truck parked along the bustling Triq San Gwann, sending plumes of black smoke into the sky. The spectacle, witnessed by astonished locals and tourists alike, left the truck a charred shell and raised a pressing question: who set it ablaze?

The Accusation

Police investigations led them to 35-year-old Maltese national, Joseph Xuereb, who was promptly arrested and charged with arson. Xuereb, a resident of the nearby town of Msida, was alleged to have intentionally set fire to the truck, causing significant damage and disrupting traffic in the vicinity of the busy St. Julian’s roundabout.

Xuereb’s Denial

Xuereb, however, vehemently denies the accusations leveled against him. In a recent court hearing, he maintained his innocence, stating, “I was at my mother’s house in Msida when the fire started. I had nothing to do with it.” His lawyer echoed his client’s denial, arguing that the prosecution’s case was circumstantial at best.

The Evidence

The prosecution, on the other hand, insists that Xuereb was seen near the truck shortly before the fire started. They also point to CCTV footage that, they claim, shows Xuereb in the vicinity. Xuereb’s defense team, however, argues that the footage is inconclusive and that the prosecution’s case is built on shaky ground.

The court has adjourned the case until further evidence can be presented. Meanwhile, Xuereb remains free on bail, his future hanging in the balance as the investigation continues.
