Voting Document: How to Collect Yours

Voting Day Looms: Don’t Miss Out, Here’s How to Collect Your Voting Document

It’s a scene that’s playing out across Malta: the postman’s knock, the rustle of envelopes, and then, the sinking feeling. You’ve missed your voting document. Don’t panic, you’re not alone. And you’re not out of luck either. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to collect your voting document in time for the upcoming local council elections.

First Things First: Check Your Eligibility

Before you rush off, double-check that you’re eligible to vote. You can do this by visiting the Elections Commission website. If you’re a Maltese or EU citizen, aged 18 or over, and resident in Malta, you’re likely eligible. If you’re still unsure, give them a call on 2558 6000.

Where to Collect Your Voting Document

Alright, you’re eligible. Now, let’s find that voting document. The Elections Commission has set up collection points across Malta and Gozo. Here are a few key locations:

    • Valletta: You can collect your document from the Elections Commission’s headquarters at St. George’s Square. They’re open from 8 AM to 7 PM on weekdays, and 8 AM to 1 PM on Saturdays.
    • Birkirkara: The Birkirkara Parish Centre, located at Triq il-Kbira, is another collection point. Their hours are the same as Valletta’s.
    • Gozo: If you’re a Gozitan voter, head to the Gozo Regional Office in Victoria. It’s open from 8 AM to 7 PM on weekdays, and 8 AM to 1 PM on Saturdays.

Can’t make it to these locations? Don’t worry. You can also collect your document from any of the other collection points listed on the Elections Commission’s website. Just remember, the last day to collect your document is Friday, 26th March.

What to Bring and What to Expect

When you collect your document, make sure to bring along your ID card or passport. This is to confirm your identity and ensure you’re collecting the correct document. Once you’ve collected your document, you’ll need to complete it and return it to the collection point by Friday, 26th March.

Remember, voting is not just a right, it’s a responsibility. It’s your chance to have your say in who represents you and your community. So, don’t miss out. If you’ve misplaced your document, or haven’t received it yet, now you know what to do.

As Daphne Caruana Galizia, the late journalist and activist, once said, “Democracy is not a spectator sport.” So, get involved. Collect your document, cast your vote, and make your voice heard.
