Wave of Change Launches ‘From Litter to Art’ Campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Waves of Change: A New Tide Rises at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Imagine standing on the rugged cliffs of Xrobb l-Għaġin, the salty breeze whipping your hair as the Mediterranean sprawls out before you. Now, picture a wave, not of water, but of change, about to crash onto these shores. That’s exactly what’s happening this Saturday, as the environmental initiative Wave of Change launches its latest campaign right here in our backyard.

What’s the Wave of Change all about?

Wave of Change is a local NGO dedicated to cleaning up Malta’s beaches and raising awareness about marine pollution. Since its inception in 2019, it has rallied thousands of volunteers, collected tonnes of trash, and inspired a wave of change in our community. Now, they’re back with a new campaign, and this time, they’re starting at Xrobb l-Għaġin.

Xrobb l-Għaġin: A Hidden Gem in Need

Xrobb l-Għaġin, or ‘The Cliffs of the Bells’ in English, is a lesser-known gem tucked away in the southwest of Malta. While it’s a popular spot for hiking and birdwatching, it’s also a hotspot for litter. From plastic bottles to fishing nets, the beauty of this place is often marred by the detritus of our throwaway culture. But that’s all about to change.

Wave of Change has chosen Xrobb l-Għaġin as the starting point for their new campaign, ‘From Litter to Art’. The initiative aims to clean up the area and transform the collected waste into art installations, raising awareness about marine pollution in a unique and powerful way.

How Can You Get Involved?

If you’re eager to roll up your sleeves and make a difference, here’s how you can join the wave:

    • Clean-up Day: Meet at the Xrobb l-Għaġin car park this Saturday, 10th September, at 9 AM. Gloves, bags, and pickers will be provided. The clean-up will be followed by a well-deserved picnic.
    • Art Workshop: If you’re more artistically inclined, sign up for the art workshop on 17th September at St. James Cavalier. Here, you’ll transform the collected litter into striking art pieces.
    • Spread the Word: Share the campaign on social media using the hashtag #WaveOfChangeMalta. Every share counts!

Remember, every piece of litter picked up is one less threat to our marine life. Every art piece created is a powerful statement against pollution. Together, we can turn the tide on waste and create a cleaner, greener Malta.

As Wave of Change founder, Andrea Zammit, puts it, “We’re not just cleaning beaches, we’re creating a movement. We’re turning litter into art, and apathy into action.” So, are you ready to ride the wave of change?
