Wave of Change Launches New Campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Għawdex’s Green Guardians: Wave of Change Set to Make Waves at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Imagine standing on the rugged cliffs of Xrobb l-Għaġin, the salty breeze whipping your hair, as you watch the Mediterranean dance below. Now, picture a wave of change sweeping through this idyllic Gozo scene. This Saturday, that’s exactly what’s happening as the environmental initiative, Wave of Change, launches its latest campaign right here.

What’s the Wave of Change all about?

Wave of Change is a local initiative dedicated to cleaning up Malta’s beaches and promoting environmental awareness. Since its inception, it has rallied thousands of volunteers, clearing tonnes of litter from our shores. This Saturday, they’re setting their sights on Xrobb l-Għaġin.

“Xrobb l-Għaġin is a gem that’s often overlooked,” says initiative founder, Mark Mallia. “We want to show that every corner of our islands deserves our care and attention.”

What to expect this Saturday

Kicking off at 9 AM, the event is open to all. Volunteers will gather at the Xrobb l-Għaġin car park, equipped with gloves, bags, and a shared passion for protecting our environment. The plan? To scour the coastline, collecting litter and recording data for future analysis.

But it’s not all work and no play. “We’ll have a barbecue afterwards, so everyone’s welcome to stick around and enjoy the beautiful view we’ve helped preserve,” Mallia adds.

Why Xrobb l-Għaġin?

Xrobb l-Għaġin might not be as famous as Golden Bay or Mellieħa Bay, but it’s no less precious. This rugged stretch of coastline offers stunning views, unique geological formations, and a habitat for diverse wildlife. Yet, it’s also a hotspot for litter, much of it plastic.

“Plastic pollution is a global issue, but it’s a local problem too,” Mallia explains. “By cleaning up Xrobb l-Għaġin, we’re not just making our island more beautiful. We’re sending a message that we won’t stand by and watch our environment be destroyed.”

So, will you be joining the wave of change this Saturday? Let’s show the world that Malta cares.
