Wave of Change Launches ‘Plastic Free Seas’ at Xrobb l-Għaġin

From Xrobb l-Għaġin to the Sea: Wave of Change Launches New Campaign

Picture this: the sun dipping below the horizon at Xrobb l-Għaġin, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. This scenic spot, a local treasure tucked away in the southwest of Malta, will be the stage for something extraordinary this Saturday. Wave of Change, the environmental initiative that’s been making waves (pun intended) around the islands, is set to launch a new campaign right here.

What’s the Buzz About?

Wave of Change, brainchild of local environmental activist and passionate diver, Mark Mallia, has been on a mission to clean up Malta’s beaches and raise awareness about marine conservation. Their latest campaign, ‘Plastic Free Seas’, aims to tackle the pressing issue of plastic pollution in our seas. This Saturday’s launch at Xrobb l-Għaġin is just the beginning of a series of events planned across the islands.

“Xrobb l-Għaġin was chosen for its beauty and its accessibility,” Mark explains. “We want to show people that they can enjoy our natural wonders while also helping to protect them. Plus, it’s a great spot for a beach clean-up – we’re expecting a good turnout.”

What to Expect on Saturday

Kicking off at 4 PM, the event will start with a beach clean-up, followed by an informative talk on the impact of plastic pollution on marine life. There’ll be interactive activities for kids, too, making it a fun and educational day out for the whole family. Local businesses will be supporting the event, offering discounts and giveaways to participants.

But Wave of Change isn’t just about the big events. Mark emphasizes the importance of individual action, “We want to inspire people to make small changes in their daily lives that can have a big impact. That’s why we’re launching our ‘Refill, Not Landfill’ campaign, encouraging people to use reusable bottles and bags.”

After the event, participants are invited to stay and enjoy the sunset, with a BBQ and live music to round off the day. It’s a perfect example of how environmentalism can go hand in hand with community spirit and fun.

So, grab your reusable bags and bottles, and head down to Xrobb l-Għaġin this Saturday. Let’s make some waves – for the better.
