Alex Borg: A People-Centric Vision for a PN Government
Imagine this: a bustling Republic Street on a sunny afternoon, the heart of Valletta throbbing with life. Among the crowd, Alex Borg, Nationalist Party (PN) candidate for the capital’s constituency, is not just shaking hands but listening. He’s not just smiling for photos but engaging in conversations. This is not a politician on a campaign trail; it’s a man who genuinely seems to care about the people he hopes to represent.
From Valletta’s Streets to Parliament
Alex Borg is no stranger to Malta’s political scene. A former PN MP and Minister, he’s now back, ready to reclaim his seat in Parliament. But this time, he’s not just running on promises; he’s running on a pledge – to put people at the centre of his politics. “It’s about time we had a government that truly represents the people,” he tells Hot Malta in an exclusive interview at his office in Floriana.
Borg believes that the PN, under his leadership, can achieve this. “We need to listen more, understand the people’s needs, and act accordingly,” he says, his voice steady and conviction evident. “It’s not about us, the politicians. It’s about them, the people.”
People-Centric Policies: More Than Just a Slogan
But how does one put people at the centre of politics? For Borg, it’s about creating policies that directly impact people’s daily lives. “Affordable housing, better healthcare, quality education – these are not just buzzwords. These are the issues that keep people up at night,” he says.
He points to the housing crisis as a prime example. “We need to increase the supply of affordable homes. We need to look into rent control measures. We need to make sure that everyone has a roof over their heads,” he says, his voice firm. “This is not a luxury. This is a basic human need.”
Borg also emphasizes the importance of healthcare and education. “We need to invest more in our hospitals and our schools. We need to make sure that our children have the best possible education, and that our elderly receive the best possible care,” he says.
From Floriana to the Rest of Malta
But Borg’s vision is not limited to Valletta. He wants to see this people-centric approach implemented across the entire country. “From Floriana to Żebbuġ, from Sliema to Xagħra, every single person deserves to be heard and represented,” he says.
He acknowledges the challenges ahead. “Malta is a small island, but it’s also a diverse one. What works in Valletta might not work in Gozo. We need to understand these differences and tailor our policies accordingly,” he says.
But Borg is undeterred. “We have the experience, we have the ideas, and most importantly, we have the will to make a difference,” he says, his eyes gleaming with determination.
As we wrap up our interview, Borg leaves us with a thought. “Politics is not about power. It’s about service. It’s about making a difference in people’s lives. And that’s what I intend to do,” he says, his voice echoing in the Floriana office, ready to resonate in the halls of Parliament.
