Alex Borg: Putting People First in Malta’s Politics

Alex Borg: A People-Centric Vision for a PN Government

In the heart of Malta’s political scene, a familiar face has stepped forward with a promise to shift the focus back to the people. Alex Borg, the Nationalist Party’s (PN) candidate for the 10th District, has been making waves with his pledge to put people at the centre of his politics. But what does this mean for Malta’s voters, and can Borg deliver on his promise?

From the Ground Up: Borg’s Local Focus

Borg, a resident of Birkirkara, is no stranger to local politics. Having served as a local councillor for over a decade, he understands the pulse of his community. His vision for a people-centric politics starts right here, at the grassroots level. “I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our communities face,” he says, “From traffic congestion on our streets to the lack of affordable housing. I believe that by addressing these local issues, we can make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Borg points to the PN’s proposed traffic management plan as an example. “We want to reduce congestion by improving public transport and encouraging carpooling. It’s about making our streets safer and more accessible for everyone,” he explains. This local focus resonates with voters like Maria, a Birkirkara resident who says, “I’ve seen Alex working hard for our community. He understands our needs and fights for us.”

Listening to the People: Borg’s Approach to Policy Making

Borg’s commitment to putting people first extends beyond local issues. He believes that policy making should be a bottom-up process, driven by the needs and aspirations of Malta’s citizens. “We need to listen to the people,” he says, “Their experiences, their ideas, their dreams. That’s what should guide our policies.”

This approach is reflected in the PN’s manifesto, which includes proposals for a national minimum wage, increased investment in education, and a more inclusive healthcare system. Borg is quick to point out that these aren’t just party talking points. “We’ve been out there, talking to people, listening to their stories. These policies are a direct response to what we’ve heard,” he says.

Transparency and Accountability: Borg’s Vision for Good Governance

Borg’s commitment to putting people first also extends to his vision for good governance. He believes that a government that is accountable and transparent is one that truly serves its people. “We need to ensure that public funds are used effectively and efficiently,” he says, “And that means being open about how we’re spending taxpayers’ money.”

Borg points to the PN’s proposal for a Freedom of Information Act as an example of this commitment. “We believe that the people have a right to know how their government is operating,” he says, “And that transparency is the best way to ensure accountability.”

But Borg is also aware that talk is cheap. “We need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk,” he says. “That means being open to criticism, listening to feedback, and always striving to do better.”

Borg’s Call to Action

As election day approaches, Borg is calling on Malta’s voters to join him in putting people first. “This is your chance to make a difference,” he says, “To send a message that you want a government that works for you, that listens to you, that serves you.”

For Borg, the future of Malta’s politics lies in the hands of its people. “We can’t just sit back and complain,” he says, “We have to stand up, speak out, and vote for change. Because when we come together, there’s no challenge we can’t overcome.”

And so, as Malta’s voters prepare to head to the polls, they are left with a choice. A choice between politics as usual, and a promise to put people first. Alex Borg is betting that Malta’s voters will choose the latter.
