Drugs Seized in St Paul’s Bay: Police Make Significant Arrest

It was a seemingly ordinary evening in St Paul’s Bay, the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and purple. Little did the residents know, an unassuming police patrol was about to disrupt the tranquility, leading to a significant drug seizure.

The patrol, led by Inspector Mario Azzopardi, was making its way along Triq San Pawl, the main thoroughfare, when they spotted a suspicious figure lurking in the shadows of a narrow alleyway leading to the old fish market.

The individual, later identified as 35-year-old Maltese national Joseph Xuereb, appeared to be acting nervously, frequently glancing over his shoulder. This behavior immediately raised the officers’ suspicions, prompting them to approach Xuereb for questioning.

As the officers approached Xuereb, they noticed a bulge in his pocket. A quick pat-down revealed a small packet containing a substance that tested positive for cocaine, weighing in at 5 grams. A subsequent search of Xuereb’s person also yielded €1,200 in cash, believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.

Xuereb was promptly arrested and taken into custody, where he is currently assisting police with their investigations. The seized drugs and cash have been sent for analysis, and the police are exploring potential links to larger drug trafficking networks.

Inspector Azzopardi commented, “This seizure is a testament to the diligence of our officers. Routine patrols like these are crucial in maintaining the safety of our communities and disrupting the activities of those who seek to undermine it.”
