Malta’s ‘Politics with Heart’ Movement Gains Momentum

Politics with Heart: Meet Malta’s Grassroots Changemakers

Picture this: A bustling evening in the heart of Valletta, the capital’s streets echoing with the hum of conversation and the clink of glasses. But this isn’t just another night out. This is ‘Politics with Heart’, a monthly meetup where Malta’s young, passionate, and progressive minds gather to discuss, debate, and dream up solutions to the challenges facing our islands.

A New Wave of Engagement

Tucked away in the cozy confines of Café Society, a stone’s throw from St. George’s Square, you’ll find a diverse crowd. They’re students, professionals, artists, and activists, all united by a desire to make Malta a better place. ‘Politics with Heart’ is their space to connect, learn, and amplify their voices.

‘Politics with Heart’ was born out of a simple idea: to make politics more accessible, more inclusive, and more relevant to everyday Maltese people. “We wanted to create a platform where anyone can engage in meaningful discussions about our country’s future,” explains co-founder Alexia, a young lawyer with a passion for social justice.

From Talk to Action

But ‘Politics with Heart’ isn’t just talk. It’s action. Each meetup focuses on a different theme – from education and healthcare to climate change and social inequality. After each discussion, participants are encouraged to take concrete steps, whether that’s volunteering, fundraising, or lobbying for change.

Take, for example, the group’s recent campaign to tackle food waste. Inspired by their discussions, they launched ‘Resq’, an app that connects surplus food from local businesses with those in need. In just a few months, Resq has saved thousands of kilograms of food and provided meals for hundreds of people.

Politics for the People

‘Politics with Heart’ isn’t aligned with any political party. It’s not about left or right, but about what’s right. It’s about giving a voice to the voiceless, a platform to the powerless. It’s about proving that politics can be – and should be – a force for good.

As one regular attendee, Mark, a software engineer, puts it, “Politics with Heart is about reclaiming politics. It’s about showing that it’s not just something that happens in Parliament, but something that happens in our communities, our streets, our cafés.”

So, if you’re tired of politics as usual, if you want to see change happen, if you want to be part of something bigger, then join the conversation. Because politics, with heart, can change lives. It can change Malta.
