Wave of Change: Cleaning Up Xrobb l-Għaġin This Saturday
Ripples of Change: Wave of Change Campaign Kickoff at Xrobb l-Għaġin
Imagine standing at the edge of Xrobb l-Għaġin, the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. Now, picture this serene scene disrupted, not by noise, but by a wave of people, armed with trash bags and gloves, ready to clean up one of Malta’s most beautiful natural spots. This is not a dream, but a reality set to unfold this Saturday, as Wave of Change launches its latest campaign.
What is Wave of Change?
Wave of Change is a local initiative dedicated to cleaning up Malta’s beaches and promoting environmental awareness. Launched in 2019, it has since become a beacon of hope in the fight against plastic pollution, organizing regular beach clean-ups and educational campaigns. Their mission is clear: to turn the tide on plastic waste and inspire a wave of change across Malta.
A Campaign Born from Concern
Xrobb l-Għaġin, a protected nature reserve and popular diving spot, has not been immune to the scourge of plastic pollution. The sight of plastic bags, bottles, and other debris littering the once-pristine shores has sparked concern among locals and environmentalists alike. Wave of Change, responding to these worries, has decided to tackle this issue head-on with their latest campaign.
“We’ve received numerous reports of plastic waste at Xrobb l-Għaġin,” says Mark Mallia, founder of Wave of Change. “It’s high time we do something about it. We’re calling on everyone to join us this Saturday and help restore the beauty of this unique spot.”
What to Expect on Saturday
Kicking off at 9 am, the campaign will see volunteers gathering at the Xrobb l-Għaġin car park, equipped with trash bags, gloves, and a determination to make a difference. The clean-up will cover the entire coastline, from the towering cliffs to the crystal-clear waters. After the clean-up, volunteers will gather for a group photo, a symbol of unity and triumph against plastic pollution.
But the campaign doesn’t stop at cleaning up. Wave of Change will also be collecting data on the types and quantities of plastic waste found. This information will be used to inform future campaigns and advocate for policy changes. “We’re not just picking up trash,” Mallia explains. “We’re gathering evidence to fight the root causes of plastic pollution.”
Following the clean-up, volunteers are invited to refuel with a free lunch, courtesy of local sponsors. It’s a small token of appreciation for their hard work and dedication.
How You Can Get Involved
Whether you’re a seasoned environmental activist or a first-timer looking to make a difference, everyone is welcome at Wave of Change. To join the campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin, simply show up at the car park this Saturday at 9 am. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes, bring a reusable water bottle, and be ready to get your hands dirty.

As the sun sets on another day in Malta, let’s hope that the sight of Xrobb l-Għaġin is not marred by plastic pollution. Let’s hope that, instead, we see a wave of change sweeping across our shores, a testament to the power of collective action.
