Wave of Change Launches Xrobb l-Għaġin Campaign

Ripples of Change: Wave of Change Campaign Kicks Off at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Imagine standing at the edge of the rugged cliffs at Xrobb l-Għaġin, the salty breeze whipping your hair as you gaze out at the vast, untamed Mediterranean. Now, picture a wave of people, armed with determination and trash bags, surging down to the shore, ready to transform this wild, beautiful spot into a cleaner, greener space. That’s exactly what’s set to happen this Saturday, as the Wave of Change initiative launches its latest campaign.

What is Wave of Change?

Wave of Change is a local NGO that’s been making waves (pun intended) since 2017. Their mission? To clean up Malta’s beaches and promote sustainable living. They’ve already tackled popular spots like Golden Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha, and St. Peter’s Pool, but this Saturday, they’re setting their sights on the rugged beauty of Xrobb l-Għaġin.

Why Xrobb l-Għaġin?

Xrobb l-Għaġin, located in the southwest of Malta, is a nature reserve known for its stunning coastal views and unique flora and fauna. It’s also a hotspot for illegal dumping. “We’ve had reports of everything from plastic bags to old furniture being dumped there,” says Daniel Borg, one of the founders of Wave of Change. “We want to show that Malta’s natural beauty is worth protecting, and that together, we can make a difference.”

But this isn’t just about a one-time clean-up. Wave of Change is using this event to launch a wider campaign to raise awareness about the impact of littering on Malta’s coastal ecosystems. “We want people to understand that every piece of trash we throw away has a ripple effect,” says Borg. “It affects the wildlife, the water quality, and even our tourism industry.”

How You Can Get Involved

If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves and be part of the change, here’s what you need to know:

    • Meet at the Xrobb l-Għaġin car park at 9 am sharp. (Yes, that means you’ll need to set your alarm. Sorry about that.)
    • Wave of Change will provide all the necessary equipment, including gloves, trash bags, and even a hearty breakfast to fuel your cleaning spree.
    • After the clean-up, stick around for a beach clean-up competition. The team that collects the most trash (yes, we’re going for the gross-out factor here) will win a special prize.
    • Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes, a hat, and sunscreen. It’s going to be a hot one!

And if you can’t make it this Saturday, don’t worry. Wave of Change has clean-ups planned for beaches all over Malta throughout the summer. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for updates.

So, are you ready to make a splash and be part of the Wave of Change? See you at Xrobb l-Għaġin this Saturday!
