Ripples of Change: Wave of Change Unveils New Campaign at Xrobb l-Għaġin

Imagine standing at the edge of Xrobb l-Għaġin, the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. Now, picture a wave of change, not just in the sea below, but in the hearts and minds of Malta’s environmental enthusiasts. This Saturday, that wave is set to make a splash with the launch of a new campaign.

From the Sea to the Streets: Xrobb l-Għaġin’s New Wave

Xrobb l-Għaġin, a nature reserve and Special Area of Conservation, has long been a beacon for Malta’s environmental consciousness. This Saturday, the 25th of June, it will serve as the backdrop for ‘Wave of Change’, a campaign aiming to clean up Malta’s beaches and raise awareness about marine pollution.

The campaign, initiated by local NGO Wasteless Malta, is part of a global movement led by the Lonely Whale organisation. It’s not just about picking up litter; it’s about sparking a conversation, a movement that can turn the tide on single-use plastic.

More Than a Clean-Up: The Wave of Change Manifesto

Wave of Change is more than just a clean-up operation. It’s a call to action, a rallying cry for Malta’s environmental community. The campaign aims to collect data on the types and quantities of litter found, creating a snapshot of Malta’s marine pollution problem. This data will be used to advocate for policy changes and encourage businesses to adopt more sustainable practices.

But the real power of Wave of Change lies in its potential to inspire individual action. “We want to show people that they can make a difference, one wave at a time,” says Dr. Samantha Gauci, founder of Wasteless Malta. “Whether it’s refusing a plastic straw or starting a beach clean-up in your community, every action counts.”

So, if you’re ready to be part of the wave, here’s what you need to know:

    • When: Saturday, 25th June, 2022
    • Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
    • Where: Xrobb l-Għaġin, Żurrieq
    • What to bring: Gloves, a reusable water bottle, and a reusable bag for collecting litter

After the clean-up, stick around for a beach party with live music, local food, and eco-friendly products. It’s a celebration of our shared commitment to Malta’s environment.
