BCA Intervenes in Msida Residents’ Early Morning Woes

Dawn Disruption: BCA Steps In As Residents Allege Early Morning Works At Collapse Site

At 6:30 AM, the usually quiet streets of Msida echoed with the hum of machinery. Residents, peeking through their curtains, were met with an unexpected sight: heavy equipment buzzing around the site of the recent building collapse on Triq San Gorg, just a stone’s throw from the picturesque Msida Creek.

For weeks, the site has been a grim reminder of the recent tragedy. But now, it’s become a source of frustration for nearby residents who woke up to find their morning routines disrupted by the early start of demolition works.

Residents Voice Concerns

Maria, a long-time Msida resident, was one of the first to voice her concern. “I understand they need to clear the site, but this is too much. My children are trying to study for their exams, and my husband is trying to work from home. The noise is unbearable,” she told Hot Malta.

Maria’s sentiments were echoed by many others in the neighborhood. Complaints flooded social media platforms, with residents expressing their frustration at the lack of communication and the early morning disturbance.

BCA Intervenes

Hot Malta reached out to the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) regarding the complaints. In response, BCA issued a statement confirming that they had been made aware of the situation and had immediately intervened.

“We understand the concerns of the residents,” said a BCA spokesperson. “We have contacted the contractors and emphasized to the approved work schedule, which clearly states that works should not commence before 7 AM on weekdays.”

The BCA also assured residents that they would be monitoring the situation closely and would not hesitate to take further action if necessary.

While the BCA’s intervention has brought some relief to the residents, the issue has raised questions about communication and consideration for those living near construction sites. As the demolition works continue, Hot Malta will keep a close eye on the situation, ensuring that the voices of the residents are heard.

For now, Maria and her neighbors can breathe a sigh of relief. “I just hope they stick to the rules,” she said. “We’ve been through enough. We deserve some peace and quiet.”
