Free Hydrotherapy for Malta’s Disability Card Holders
Wet & Wonderful: Free Hydrotherapy Unveiled for Malta’s Disability Card Holders
Imagine the soothing embrace of warm water, the gentle resistance of a pool, and the joy of movement. Now, picture this not as a distant dream, but a tangible reality for Malta’s disability card holders, thanks to a new initiative that’s making waves in our community.
Tucked away in the heart of Msida, the National Pool Complex has always been a beacon for water lovers. But now, it’s set to become a haven for those who’ve longed for the therapeutic benefits of hydrotherapy, yet faced financial barriers. The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) and the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation have joined forces to offer free hydrotherapy sessions to holders of the Government’s Disability Card.
Diving into the Details
So, what exactly does this mean for those who’ve been waiting for this opportunity? The MCVS, in collaboration with the Malta Paralympic Committee and the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta, will be offering 40 free hydrotherapy sessions per week at the National Pool Complex. These sessions, led by qualified instructors, will be tailored to each individual’s needs, ensuring a safe and effective experience.
But the benefits of hydrotherapy extend far beyond the pool. “Hydrotherapy can help improve muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance,” explains Dr. Mark Xuereb, a local physiotherapist. “It also promotes relaxation, reduces pain, and enhances overall well-being.” For those living with disabilities, these benefits can be life-changing.
Making Waves in the Community
This initiative is more than just a service; it’s a statement about our community’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. “We believe that everyone deserves the chance to enjoy the benefits of hydrotherapy,” says MCVS CEO, Marija Spiteri. “This initiative is a testament to our belief in a more inclusive Malta.”
And the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. “I’ve been waiting for something like this for years,” says Maria, a disability card holder from Birkirkara. “I can’t wait to start my sessions and feel the difference hydrotherapy can make.”
