Malta’s Disability Card Holders Get Free Hydrotherapy Sessions
Unlocking Wellness: Free Hydrotherapy for Malta’s Disability Card Holders
Imagine, for a moment, the relief of stepping into warm, soothing water, feeling its buoyancy lift your body, and its gentle currents ease your aches and pains. Now, picture this scene at the Marsa Bay Hot Springs, Malta’s very own natural wonder. This is not a dream for Malta’s disability card holders; it’s a reality thanks to a new initiative offering free hydrotherapy sessions.
What is Hydrotherapy and How Does it Help?
Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is a centuries-old practice that uses water to promote healing and well-being. It’s particularly beneficial for those with disabilities, as the water’s buoyancy reduces the impact on joints and muscles, allowing for a wider range of movement with less pain. It also improves circulation, relieves stress, and boosts mood.
Dr. Joseph Mizzi, a local physiotherapist, explains, “Hydrotherapy can significantly improve the quality of life for those with disabilities. It’s a gentle, low-impact way to exercise, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being.”
Making Waves: Free Hydrotherapy Sessions
The Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector (MCVS) and the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) have joined forces to offer free hydrotherapy sessions at the Marsa Bay Hot Springs. The initiative, dubbed ‘HydroWell’, is open to all Malta disability card holders.
MCVS President, Mariella Dimech, says, “We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity to Malta’s disability card holders. It’s our way of ensuring that everyone can enjoy the benefits of our beautiful hot springs, regardless of their physical abilities.”
The sessions, led by certified physiotherapists, will run twice a week, with transport provided for those in need. Participants will also receive a free towel and locker access.
Getting Involved: How to Register
If you’re a Malta disability card holder eager to dip your toes into hydrotherapy, here’s how to register:
- Visit the MCVS website or call them on 2124 3886.
- Provide your full name, ID number, contact details, and disability card number.
- Choose your preferred session day and time (morning or afternoon).
