Heavy Vehicles at Xewkija Park-and-Ride: Temporary or Not?

Temporary or Not? Heavy Vehicles Park-and-Ride Raises Eyebrows in Xewkija

Xewkija, a small town in Gozo, has found itself at the centre of a mini storm. Residents have been up in arms over the sudden appearance of heavy vehicles at the town’s park-and-ride facility. The Ministry of Transport has been quick to respond, assuring that these vehicles are ‘temporary’. But for how long, and why, remains a mystery.

Vehicles Causing Concern

Locals have been expressing their concerns about the heavy vehicles parked at the Xewkija park-and-ride. The facility, located just off Triq l-Imqaddes, was designed to accommodate cars and small vans, not heavy trucks and buses. The vehicles, some of which are believed to be used for construction work, have been parked there for weeks, causing a stir among residents.

“It’s not what this facility was meant for,” says Joe, a long-time Xewkija resident. “It’s causing traffic congestion, and it’s not safe for other drivers. We’ve been trying to get answers, but it’s like talking to a brick wall.”

Ministry’s Response

The Ministry of Transport has been quick to respond to the concerns, issuing a statement that the vehicles are ‘temporary’. However, they have been vague about the duration and the reason behind this temporary arrangement.

“We understand the concerns of the residents,” says a spokesperson for the Ministry. “We assure them that these vehicles are only there temporarily. We are working on a solution to resolve this issue as soon as possible.”

Residents Want Answers

While the Ministry’s response has been reassuring, residents are still seeking concrete answers. They want to know how long these vehicles will be there, why they were parked at the facility in the first place, and what steps are being taken to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

“We’re not against progress,” says Maria, another Xewkija resident. “But we need to know what’s going on. We deserve some clarity and reassurance that our concerns are being taken seriously.”

As of now, the heavy vehicles remain at the Xewkija park-and-ride, a constant reminder of the unanswered questions hanging in the air. The Ministry of Transport has promised to keep the public updated on the situation, but until then, residents can only wait and wonder.
