Heavy Vehicles at Xewkija Park-and-Ride: Temporary or Not?
Temporary or Not? Heavy Vehicles at Xewkija Park-and-Ride Raises Eyebrows
Driving through Xewkija, the hum of heavy vehicles at the park-and-ride facility is no longer the usual morning symphony. Instead, it’s a discordant note that’s been playing for months now. The once peaceful parking lot, designed to ease traffic into Victoria, has become a temporary home for heavy vehicles, much to the surprise and concern of locals.
What’s Going On?
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure has been quick to respond to the growing curiosity and discontent, assuring the public that the presence of heavy vehicles at the park-and-ride is ‘temporary’. But temporary to whom, and for how long, remains a question on everyone’s lips.
According to the ministry, the heavy vehicles are being stored there as part of a ‘short-term’ solution while a nearby construction site is being completed. The site, located just off Triq San Gorg, is currently undergoing expansion, and the heavy vehicles are being kept at the park-and-ride for ‘convenience and safety’ reasons.
Locals Weigh In
But locals in Xewkija aren’t convinced. “Temporary is a relative term,” says Mario Debono, a long-time resident. “If it’s temporary to them, it’s been temporary for a very long time now. We’re starting to wonder if it’s more permanent than they’re letting on.”
Concerns aren’t just about the duration of the vehicles’ stay. The noise pollution, the potential safety hazards, and the impact on the park-and-ride’s intended purpose are all issues that have been raised by locals. “We use this facility to park our cars and take the bus into Victoria,” says Debono. “But with all these heavy vehicles here, it’s making it difficult for us to do that.”
The Ministry’s Stance
The ministry, however, maintains that the situation is under control. “We are aware of the concerns raised by the local community,” a spokesperson said. “We assure them that we are working diligently to ensure that the situation is resolved as soon as possible.”
But with no concrete timeline provided, the question remains: how temporary is ‘temporary’? And what does this mean for the future of the Xewkija park-and-ride?
, but one thing is certain – the people of Xewkija are watching, waiting, and hoping for a resolution that respects their community and the original purpose of the park-and-ride.
