Malta Candidate Spends Campaign Funds on Public Defibrillator

Defibrillator over Flyers: A Heartfelt Campaign in Malta

Imagine this: instead of the usual campaign flyers, you find a shiny new public defibrillator installed on your street. This is exactly what happened in Birkirkara, Malta, when local candidate, Mark Camilleri, decided to spend his campaign funds differently.

From Flyers to Life Savers

Mark, a long-time resident of Birkirkara, was tired of the traditional campaign tactics. “I wanted to make a difference, not just talk about it,” he said. So, he traded in his flyer budget for a life-saving device. “I thought, what better way to connect with my community than by giving them something that could save lives?”

Mark chose Birkirkara’s busy Triq San Gwann for the defibrillator, a street that sees a constant flow of people. “It’s a central location where it can make the most impact,” he explained.

Community Response: Heartwarming and Heart-Healthy

The response from the Birkirkara community has been overwhelmingly positive. Neighbors have been sharing photos of the defibrillator on social media, with many expressing their gratitude. “It’s not just about me or my campaign,” Mark said. “It’s about the people here, their safety, and their peace of mind.”

Local businesses have also shown their support. Café Luna, just a few steps away from the defibrillator, has offered to keep it maintained and ready for use. “It’s a small price to pay for the safety of our community,” said the café’s owner, Joseph Xuereb.

Setting a New Standard for Campaigns?

Mark’s unique approach to campaigning has sparked conversations about what political campaigns could look like. “Maybe it’s time we start thinking about what we can give back to our communities, not just what we can take from them,” Mark said.

As for the upcoming election, Mark remains focused on his goal. “I’m not running to win votes, I’m running to make a difference. And I think this defibrillator is a pretty good start.”
