Malta Offers Free Hydrotherapy Sessions for Disability Card Holders
Unlocking Wellness: Free Hydrotherapy for Malta’s Disability Card Holders
Imagine the soothing sensation of warm water enveloping your body, easing away tensions and pains. Now, picture this experience being accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial circumstances. This is not just a dream, but a reality thanks to Malta’s recent initiative offering free hydrotherapy sessions to disability card holders.
What is Hydrotherapy and How Does it Help?
Hydrotherapy, or water therapy, is a treatment method that uses water to soothe, stimulate, or heal the body. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals with disabilities or chronic conditions, as it provides a low-impact, high-return way to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance overall well-being. The buoyancy of water supports the body’s weight, allowing for a wider range of motion and less stress on joints.
Malta’s warm climate and rich history with natural hot springs make it an ideal location for hydrotherapy. The country’s first hydrotherapy pool, located at the San Anton Palace in Attard, has been providing therapeutic services for decades. However, until recently, the cost of these sessions was a barrier for many who could greatly benefit from them.
Breaking Down Barriers: Free Hydrotherapy Sessions
In a commendable move, the Malta Government has announced that holders of the Disability Information Card will now have access to free hydrotherapy sessions. This initiative, launched in partnership with the Malta Hydrotherapy Association, aims to make this therapeutic service more accessible and affordable for those who need it most.
The free sessions will be held at the San Anton Palace hydrotherapy pool, as well as at the newly refurbished pool in Qormi. The Qormi pool, located within the Qormi Sports Complex, has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to cater to a wide range of disabilities and mobility issues.
How to Access the Free Hydrotherapy Sessions
To access the free hydrotherapy sessions, disability card holders simply need to present their card at the reception of the respective pool. No additional registration or paperwork is required. The sessions will be held on a first-come, first-served basis, with each session lasting approximately 45 minutes.
It’s important to note that while the sessions are free, participants are encouraged to bring their own swimwear and towels. Locker facilities will be available at both locations.
For those who may require additional assistance or have specific queries, the Malta Hydrotherapy Association can be contacted on +356 2149 0400 or via email at info@maltahydrotherapy.org.
, let’s hope that this initiative not only improves the lives of those it serves but also encourages further investment in accessible healthcare and wellness services across Malta.
