Malta’s Local Councils Invited to Animal First Aid Courses
First Aid for Paws: Local Councils Invited to Register for Animal First Aid Courses
Imagine this: you’re strolling along the bustling Republic Street in Valletta, the sun is out, and suddenly, you spot a distressed cat or a dog in need. Would you know what to do? The good news is, local councils are being given the opportunity to ensure more people in Malta can step up and help in such situations.
Hot off the press, we’ve learned that local councils across Malta have been invited to register their interest in animal first aid courses. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry for Gozo and the Environment, is set to equip more Maltese residents with the skills to provide immediate assistance to animals in distress.
Why the Need for Animal First Aid Courses?
Malta, with its rich biodiversity and high pet ownership, is home to a variety of animals that often find themselves in precarious situations. From road accidents to heatstroke during summer, the need for animal first aid is evident. Yet, many of us lack the necessary knowledge to provide effective assistance.
“We’ve seen too many instances where quick action could have saved an animal’s life, but unfortunately, the person on the scene didn’t know what to do,” says Dr. Mark Sultana, a local vet who has been advocating for animal first aid training.
What to Expect from the Courses
The animal first aid courses, set to be held at various locations across Malta, will cover a range of topics. From recognizing signs of distress to administering CPR and treating wounds, participants will gain a solid understanding of how to provide immediate care to animals in need.
the courses will also touch on animal welfare and ethics, helping participants understand the importance of their role in maintaining a humane and responsible society.
“We’re not just teaching people how to save a life,” says Dr. Sultana. “We’re teaching them to be responsible, compassionate citizens who understand the value of every life, human or animal.”
How to Register and Get Involved
Local councils interested in registering for the animal first aid courses can contact the Ministry for Gozo and the Environment for more information. The ministry is also encouraging individual residents to reach out to their local councils to express their interest in participating.
Remember, every one of us can make a difference. Whether it’s a cat stuck in a tree in your neighborhood or a dog injured on the road, knowing animal first aid could mean the world to that creature in need.
, let’s strive to create a Malta where every creature, big or small, knows it has a community of caring individuals ready to lend a helping paw.
