Motorcyclist Injured in Regional Road Crash

Motorcyclist Hospitalised After Regional Road Crash

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a collision on the Regional Road in Ħal Far this morning, where a motorcyclist was left injured and a car severely damaged. The incident, which occurred just before 9 am, caused traffic chaos during the morning rush hour.

The Crash

The motorcyclist, a 35-year-old man from Birkirkara, was traveling towards Marsa when a car turning left from the opposite direction collided with him. The force of the impact sent the motorcyclist crashing to the ground, while the car ended up on the pavement, narrowly missing a bus stop.

Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos, with debris scattered across the road and both vehicles extensively damaged. “I saw the motorcyclist fly off his bike and hit the ground hard,” said one witness, who wished to remain anonymous. “It all happened so fast, but I could see he was in a lot of pain.”

Emergency Response

Police and an ambulance from the Malta Civil Protection Department arrived at the scene within minutes. The motorcyclist was treated for suspected broken ribs and a head injury before being rushed to Mater Dei Hospital. His condition is described as stable but serious.

The driver of the car, a 52-year-old woman from Ħal Qormi, was also taken to hospital for minor injuries. Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Road Safety Concerns

The Regional Road has long been a concern for road safety campaigners, with several serious crashes occurring on the stretch between Ħal Far and Marsa in recent years. Local residents have called for improved signage and traffic calming measures to reduce speeds in the area.

Malta’s Road Safety NGO, Mroads, has urged motorists to take extra care on the roads, especially during peak travel times. “We need to remember that every journey starts and ends with a choice,” said Mroads spokesperson, Dr. Maria Galea. “Choose to drive safely, choose to look out for other road users, and choose to arrive alive.”

This latest crash comes just days after Transport Minister Ian Borg announced plans to invest €10 million in road safety improvements across Malta. The Regional Road is expected to be one of the first areas to benefit from these upgrades.
