Rider Down: Motorcyclist Injured in Regional Road Crash
Emergency services rushed to the Regional Road in Msida yesterday afternoon following a collision involving a motorcycle and a car. The motorcyclist, a 35-year-old man from Birkirkara, was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital with serious injuries, according to police reports.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the crash brought traffic to a standstill on one of Malta’s busiest thoroughfares. “I was driving behind them,” said Joseph, a local resident who asked not to reveal his last name. “The car suddenly changed lanes without indicating, and the motorcyclist had no time to react. It happened so fast.”
Road Safety Concerns
This incident has once again raised concerns about road safety on Malta’s Regional Roads. Despite recent improvements, these roads remain notorious for their high accident rates. According to the Malta Police, there have been over 500 road accidents on these roads in the past year alone.
“We need more enforcement and stricter penalties,” said Dr. Mario Vella, a road safety expert. “But we also need better education. Drivers need to understand that sharing the road means taking responsibility for other road users.”
Support Pouring In
News of the crash quickly spread on social media, with many expressing their support for the injured motorcyclist. “Get well soon, mate,” wrote one Facebook user. “Wear your gear, folks,” urged another, highlighting the importance of protective clothing for motorcyclists.
Friends of the injured man have set up a GoFundMe page to help with his medical expenses. “He’s a hardworking guy, always there to help others,” said a close friend who wished to remain anonymous. “Now it’s our turn to help him.”
As of press time, the motorcyclist remains in stable condition at Mater Dei Hospital. Police investigations into the crash are ongoing.
